Streamlining New Innovative Paint Production

Product Information

Recron® fibre is a state-of-the-art reinforcing material that is used to increase strength in a variety of applications. It is used with modified polymer enabling it to dye with cationic dyes which are known to make bright & brilliant shades.

Customer’s Requirement

In 2015, a major international paint company began searching for appropriate technologies for conveying Recron fibres for their new development in paints. In existing plants, they used to manually transfer 1000kg (stack of 30kg bags) fibres into their reactors on the first floor, since it was a batch application every four hours they needed to feed the reactor which engaged manpower and was time-consuming.

Challenge

The client wanted to establish a conveying solution, which could reduce their manpower and help in automating the system.

The product refused to travel in screw conveyors as well as pneumatic conveyors.

Solution

The client had seen the Floveyor during a Chem tech exhibition in Ahmedabad at the FPT stand. After This FPT got involved and visited their facility in Khandala, Pune, after understanding the application with the engineering team, FPT invited the client to conduct a trial on an F3 Floveyor AMC high-speed unit of 2 meters height at its Atgaon facility near Mumbai.

Trial results:

The client and FPT tested the Floveyor system with Recron fibres. During trials, the product when fed into the Floveyor hopper in bulk i.e. 30 kg at a time resulted in bridging the fibers into the hopper hence not conveying the product. FPT then decided to use a Vibratory conveyor to feed the product into the hopper evenly, which worked efficiently and the fibres conveyed easily. AMC has achieved a conveying rate of 1.2tph with minimal residue and without altering the product characteristic. Asian paint engineers even tested the AMC at two different inclinations to check its effect on flowability and conveying rate, even at different inclinations Floveyor AMC could give the same results.

After trials and Engineering discussion, the client quickly ordered one unit of 12mtr length with a 2-way diverter to feed in 2 reactors which got installed in October 2015 at their Khandala, plant.

Outcome

In 2017 after evaluating the installed Floveyor for performance, energy efficiency, and maintenance requirements the client ordered 3 new Floveyor AMCs for their next stage conveying.

Principal

Floveyor believes in simplifying materials handling. In 1950s Western Australia, Mr Robert Walker drew inspiration from a classical Chinese Dragon Spine conveyor to create a highly efficient Aero Mechanical prototype for conveying peanuts. They thrive on providing straightforward and complete conveying solutions that take the hassles and headaches out of plant engineering, their solutions are unique, beautifully designed Aero Mechanical Conveyors with distinctive capabilities, second to none in the industry, and their systems are simple to operate, highly efficient and effortless to maintain. In addition to being intrinsically safe and very clean, Floveyor’s’ quiet operation also contributes to better workplace health and a safe environment.
